Mantegna and Guariento in the Eremitani church
This church, built at the end of the 13th century and the first few years of the 14th century as home to the Order of Saint Augustine, faced substantial damage during the bombings of 1944 and later was reconstructed to its original design.
Even though parts have been lost, inside you will be able to admire frescoes by Andrea Mantegna in the Ovetari chapel and those in the apse chapel by the painter Guariento.
Giusto de’ Menabuoi in the Duomo baptistery
Here you will find the splendid series of frescoes by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, one of the defining artists of the 14th century.
The grand Paradiso in the dome is breath-taking: hundreds of saints arranged in concentric circles, set around the figure of Christ Pantocrator and the Madonna.
